Pijnstillende crèmes (topicale analgetica) worden de laatste jaren steeds meer ingezet voor de behandeling van chronische pijn en met name neuropathische pijn. De voordelen van pijnstillende crèmes ten opzichte van orale pijnstillers zijn:
De afgelopen jaren laten studies zien dat topicale analgetica effectief en veilig zijn.(1-2) En resultaten van vergelijkende studies geven aan dat topicale analgetica net zo effectief kunnen zijn als orale pijnstillers.(1,4) Deze nieuwe behandelwijze, pijn verminderen met pijnstillende crèmes, is welkom aangezien meer dan twee derde van de patiënten met neuropathische pijn geen adequate pijnstilling ervaren.(5)
Het Instituut voor Neuropathische Pijn heeft de laatste jaren een aantal pijnstillende analgetica ontwikkeld op basis van bestaande wetenschappelijke literatuur en heeft haar bevindingen gepubliceerd i.v.m. de volgende pijnstillende crèmes:
De pijnstillende crèmes worden magistraal gemaakt bij een bereidingsapotheker. De meeste patiënten ervaren binnen 30 minuten pijnverlichting. Als er geen pijnverlichting optreedt, dan kan het betekenen dat de patiënt niet de juiste pijnstillende crème gekregen heeft. Er zijn natuurlijk altijd non-responders. Op basis van een groeiende database die door ons instituut beheerd wordt, lijkt het alsof ten minste 50% van alle behandelde patiënten positief op een van de pijnstillende crèmes reageert.
